About the Artist

Judy Riley is a studio potter who lives and works in Mooresville, NC in fall/ winter and in Vermilion, OH in spring/ summer. She holds a degree in Industrial Design from The Ohio State University and enjoyed many years of designing products while employed by Timex, Moen, G.E. and other companies.

While hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2015, Judy had time to reflect on her career and thought about pottery as a more personal way to continue creating products that bring joy to people in their everyday lives.

Judy has been learning from many talented professionals and exploring a variety of techniques. Her work displays attention to detail and emphasizes fit, function and feel. She fires using electric kilns in her studio and has fired in wood, soda and salt kilns too. She is inspired by old and new pottery and by observing forms and patterns in nature.
